A few months ago, H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche suggested to his long time student Ms Irene Lim to open a vegetarian restaurant. Irene immediately agreed without hesitation. She is very devoted to our Rinpoche and has full trust in Kechara’s Dharma Protector Lord Setrap to help her accomplish her Dharma assignments. And her confidence paid off.
Irene has never run a restaurant before, but she took this as a challenge. She always wishes to fulfil instructions from her guru, a teacher who she has followed devotedly for 20 years.
Irene in the past single handedly opened up Yogini Mystical Treasures Dharma Outlet in the prestigious Lot 10 shopping mall in the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur and offered it up to Rinpoche. It is a wonderful Dharma outlet in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The outlet is a very beautiful place which people visit daily. Irene has just returned from a pilgrimage with Rinpoche from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Leshan (China), Chengdu, and Tibet recently and she is now opening this wonderful restaurant.
She has found cooks and taken them on taste testing trips to places such as Nepal and Taiwan. She located a place, secured it and began renovations immediately. Now Kechara Oasis or KO is fully complete. KO already had its soft opening much to the delight of Kechara members and everyone has remarked that the food is absolutely delicious.
Now Kechara has its own restaurant which is clean and promotes vegetarianism in tandem with the in depth Buddhist teachings. The Kechara organisation is truly growing and expanding in many directions to benefit others and bring the Message of Lord Buddha according to Lama Tsongkhapa's tradition to many.
On Wednesday, January 21, 2009, His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche officially opened Kechara Oasis. During the auspicious ceremony, Irene offered the keys of the restaurant to His Eminence, which symbolises offering her Dharma work up to her Lama. Among the distinguished guests were Y. Bhg. Datuk Dr. Victor Wee who is the Economic Adivisor to the Treasury Dept and Datin Catherine Lai.
His Eminence gave a short but very meaningful address about the importance of harmony and commented that Malaysia is exemplary in its unity of such diverse cultures and peoples. Conflict arises when there is not enough knowledge or misinformation. With respect for each other's cultures and religions, we will definitely have stability and peace. His Eminence also rejoiced that Kechara was opening a vegetarian restaurant to promote care for animals and to create the cause for a large animal shelter in the future.
Kechara Oasis will be the 12th Dept of Kechara under the Head of Dept or HOD, Ms Irene Lim. We congratulate her. Other depts in Kechara include Kechara Saraswati Arts, Kechara Media & Publications, TKL, Kechara Soup Kitchen, etc. Much of the profits of KO will go towards supporting His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche's Dharma works via Tsem Ladrang.
With Kechara Oasis, we can have delicious food, promote a vegetarian and healthy diet, support our own Kechara Organization and contribute to our Lama, His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche's work. What a wonderful combination. Do visit often to enjoy the array of wonderful food.
It is wonderful that students like Irene do more and more to assist our Rinpoche in spreading the Dharma in any way that they can. Especially when they have been given suggestions by Rinpoche and they just follow. Long time students who accept Rinpoche's suggestions show that sometimes trust goes a long way. This trust has developed from their personal observations over a long time of Rinpoche’s consistent sincerity and pure care without agenda. The more Dharma work they do the more it shows their trust in the Dharma.
We rejoice and congratulate Irene heartily for being one of the pioneers in beautiful Malaysia to bring Tsongkapa's tradition to many by skillful methods.
